Caring for stoneware

High-fired stoneware is dense and durable. Everything on the shelf is safe in the dishwasher, the microwave, and a warm oven, but it does not like sudden temperature changes. Let a cold dish come to room temperature before it goes into a hot oven, and never put an empty piece on a stovetop burner.

The unglazed foot ring on the bottom of each piece is sanded smooth before it leaves the studio. If it ever feels rough against a table, rub it gently with fine sandpaper or a wet sharpening stone.

Ash glazes move in the kiln, so each piece breaks differently over edges and throwing lines. Small pinholes and variations in color are part of the process, not defects. If a piece arrives chipped or cracked, write to us within 30 days and we will replace it.
